What Dogs and Cats Can Teach Us About Recovery

It always seems surprising how few people have heard this.  It is an oldie but a goodie.  Feel free to share it at your next meeting.  Remember: “we aren’t a glum lot” (p. 132)

So, without any further ado…

A dog looks at a human and thinks:

This human loves me, feeds me, plays with me, takes care of me when I’m sick, cleans up my poop.  The dog’s conclusion: This human must be God.

A cat looks at a human and thinks:

This Human loves me, feeds me, plays with me, takes care of me when I’m sick, cleans up my poop.  The cat’s conclusion: I must be God.

The cat is an alcoholic.

POINT TO PONDER: A major difference between me and God is that God doesn’t sometimes believe He is me.
